How to Make Money Traveling
I've loved traveling since I took my first trip as a child. There's nothing like the thrill of discovering a new place, a new culture. For most people however, travel is short-lived, as they can only travel as far as their savings will take them.
If you want the freedom of traveling regularly, then you need to develop a source of income that doesn't require you to be in one location.
Here are some of the ways that you can make money while traveling, like I do.
Dreamstime is a stock photography website. For those of you not familiar with what that is, stock photography websites allow photographers (anyone with a camera really) to upload their photos to the site. People and companies can then search the website for photos they need and if your photo fits what they need they will purchase it and you will get paid. Stock photography sites usually start paying about 50 cents per sale of your photo, however, the more times a photo of yours has been purchased, the higher the price becomes. You could get tens of dollars or even hundreds depending on the license they purchase. This is great for making money, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of photos, as you likely wouldn't make too much off of one photo. I have however, seen very popular photos that have earned the photographer thousands, if not tens of thousands off that one photo.
Fotolia works the same way as Dreamstime. Whenever I have new photos I upload them to both sites. You might get a different outcome, but so far I have made 10 times as much money on Dreamstime than I have with Fotolia.
Fine Art America is a great website that allows you to sell your fine art prints. You can create a bio and galleries if you have photos of different themes. You get to choose what products you'd like to create, such as pillows, phone cases, t-shrits and more, or you can choose to simply sell prints. The great thing is you get to choose your pricing.
Neobux is the top PTC website. If you haven't heard of PTC websites before PTC stands for Paid to Click. It basically means you get paid to click on and view ads. There are millions of PTC sites, most of which are here today and gone tomorrow, or simply never pay you. Neobux is the largest and most reputable. They've been around for 10 years and will play you instantly when you cash out. You get paid 1 or 2 cents for viewing ads. That might sound like an impossible way to make money, but the way to make money is through referrals. You can pay to rent referrals and you will make money off of them when they view ads. You view a few ads a day for a couple minutes and then let the rest of your referrals earn the money for you. I have over 10,000 referrals I've rented over the last 10 years and each year I cash out enough money to pay for a few trips.
Zazzle is another website that I use to create products out of my photos. They have hundreds of products that you can create such as notebooks, binders, mugs, greeting cards and countless others.
One of the most commonly known ways of making money online is through blogging. You can create a blog about anything that you're passionate about. The more general your blog topic is, the larger potential audience you have. It's important to blog regularly, so you need to choose a blog topic that you can easily create content for, and that you won't get tired of writing about.
Once you've created a blog you'll need to get traffic to it. Tailwind is the best tool to help you schedule your Pinterest posts at the optimal times. Once you're using Tailwind you'll need to join a few tribes (Tailwind groups where you can pin your posts, and have your posts repinned by others in the group). This is how I get the majority of my blog traffic, and how most bloggers have grown their audience.
Once you have a blog with traffic set up, your next step is to monetize your website. Affiliate marketing is one of the mostly widely used forms of blog monetization. If you haven't heard of affiliate marketing before, it is when a website pays you a commission if you refer someone to their site and they make a purchase. This could be in the form of a set fee or a percentage. It is great, as it is noninvasive and doesn't make your blog look spammy.
For example, if you have a blog about cooking and you can mention a specific ingredient or cookware you can simply make the word a hyperlink that leads people to a website where they can purchase that product. There are countless affiliate marketing programs and you have to do your research and see what fits your blog best. I use Amazon's affiliate marketing program because of their broad range of products and because they are a recognized website that people are comfortable purchasing from.
If you have a blog, or plan to start blogging, then Linqia is a great way to monetize your site. They have a variety of sponsored post campaigns that you can choose from that fit your blog niche. All you have to do is apply to the campaign and if you are selected, you simply fulfill the campaign criteria in order to get paid.
If you own a home or a condo, one of the best ways to make money while you travel is to rent out your place through Airbnb. Depending on where you live and where you travel, you could make more money renting your place than you're spending on your trip, meaning you could be growing your savings while having the time of your life traveling the world. That's a win-win to me.
Brand Partnerships
If you have a decent following on social media, whether that is on Instagram, Pinterest, a blog or any other social media, there are countless brands waiting to partner with you to have their brand promoted. You don't need to have a million followers to partner with brands. The most important thing is to have a well-curated image and to be consistent with your online presence. If you have followers that value your opinion then you're halfway there already. Look critically at your social media presence and decide what it is that sets you apart and what it is that you can offer brands. Do not be discouraged if initially you reach out to brands and don't get a response or your proposal for a brand partnership is rejected. Someone at some point will say yes, and it will make suffering through all the rejections worthwhile.
Find Work Abroad
There are many people who fund their travels by working abroad. Most travel destinations have many temporary or seasonal jobs that you can do for the duration of your stay. The most common being working at cafes, being a club promoter or bartender, working on a farm, being an English teacher or an au-pair.
Don't hold yourself back from traveling by thinking it's something your lifestyle can't afford you. Think about what works for you and your life and apply the tips that you think are doable. You don't need to do everything that I do, but the more you do the higher your earning potential.
