Learn more about Brampton by visiting this art gallery, museum and archives for the Regional Municipality of Peel which was previously housed in the Peel County Courthouse before reopening in 2012 with significantly more space. The museum collection includes some 12,000 artifacts that represent the county’s history from 4000 BC. One of the highlights include a vast collection of 19th-century stoneware and an extensive textile collection that features more than 18,000 pieces of clothing and locally-made quilts.
The art gallery’s permanent collection features more than 4,000 historic and contemporary works as the largest of its kind in the region, various major works by nationally known artists. The archives include municipal documents and material related to the history of Peel County.
Wander Through the Historic Bovaird House
History comes to life with a visit to the Historic Bovaird House. The mid-19th-century home belonged to pioneers William and Mossie Bovaird, who donated it to the city as a way to preserve its pioneer past. The circa 1852 classic five-bay Georgian-style farmhouse is located in a picturesque two-acre park-like setting and also includes an earlier log building, circa 1845, that was donated by a local developer who relocated the building to preserve its heritage.
